Unrestricted grants are available for community and voluntary sports groups across the UK and Ireland, delivering activities for a social purpose to under-represented communities.
Requirements:
- Location: United Kingdom and Republic of Ireland.
- Eligible organisations: Not-for-profit organisations, including registered charities, CICs limited by guarantee, constituted community groups and grassroots sports clubs.
- Adult-only provision: Organisations must work exclusively with adults aged 18 and over. Organisations with junior members, under-18 teams or activities for young people are not eligible, even if the funding would only benefit an adult team.
- Purpose: Applicants must deliver, or plan to deliver, sport or physical activity for adults with a wider social purpose.
- Governance: Applicants must provide a governing document, such as a constitution or articles of association, or relevant charity/company registration details.
- Bank account: A recent bank statement in the organisation’s name is required. Payments cannot be made to personal bank accounts.
- Policies and insurance: Applicants must confirm they have appropriate safeguarding and health and safety policies, along with relevant insurance.
- Organisational income: There is no absolute income ceiling stated, but applications from organisations with annual turnover below £250,000 are prioritised.
- Previous funding: Organisations that received Cash4Clubs funding between 2023 and 2025 may apply again, although new applicants may be prioritised if demand exceeds the available funding.
- One application: Each club can submit one application; separate teams within the same club cannot apply independently
Funding Priorities:
Cash4Clubs prioritises organisations using sport to make a wider social difference, particularly in disadvantaged communities. It is interested in increasing participation among women, racially diverse communities, disabled people and LGBT+ people, as well as helping adults who might not normally take part in sport. Projects that improve physical or mental wellbeing, reduce loneliness or rural isolation, strengthen community cohesion or address local social issues are particularly relevant.
What They Will Fund:
The grant is unrestricted, meaning organisations can decide how best to use it to continue or grow their adult sport and physical activity provision.
Eligible uses may include:
- Sports equipment and kit.
- Venue hire and facility costs.
- Utilities, including heating and lighting.
- Coaching costs and instructor fees.
- Training and coaching qualifications.
- Volunteer expenses.
- Marketing and communications to attract new participants.
- Insurance and affiliation fees.
- Facility refurbishment and improvements.
- Other reasonable costs that help keep the organisation running and increase adult participation.
Applicants should explain how the funding will benefit their organisation, the adults they support and the wider community.
What They Won’t Fund:
Cash4Clubs will not fund:
- Organisations that include under-18s in their membership or activities.
- Projects or activities supporting young people under 18.
- Individuals applying in their personal capacity.
- Profit-making organisations, including CICs limited by shares.
- Elite sport or talent development.
- Activities taking place outside the UK and Ireland, including overseas trips.
- Personal bank accounts as the destination for grant payments.
The fund is designed for grassroots participation and social impact rather than competitive elite sport.
